Overview
Trinity Pharmacy is a full-service community pharmacy with NAPRA-compliant compounding facilities, developed within a retail tenancy at Eastview Centre Plaza in the Mountview neighbourhood of south-central Red Deer. The pharmacy anchors the front of the tenancy adjacent to the main entrance and waiting area, giving it direct visibility and access from the street while operating alongside the neighbouring Trinity Medical Clinic. PiXEL Architecture Studio led the project as prime consultant for the architectural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines — from programming and schematic design through development and building permit approvals with the City of Red Deer, NECB energy code compliance, and construction administration through to occupancy.
Compounding Program
The heart of the design is the compounding program, planned to the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) standards and Alberta College of Pharmacy licensing requirements. A dedicated, enclosed Level C compounding room — with controlled access, anteroom provisions, and mechanical ventilation and pressure relationships coordinated closely with the mechanical engineer — supports complex non-sterile compounding. A separate Level A compounding counter serves routine preparations within the dispensary workflow, keeping the two tiers of compounding clearly separated for regulatory compliance and operational clarity.
Layout & Design
Around the compounding facilities, the plan organizes an efficient dispensary with purpose-built millwork, prescription intake and pick-up counters, a walk-in cooler for refrigerated medications, secure storage, a staff washroom and kitchenette, and a private counselling room for confidential patient consultations. The layout keeps sightlines open, workflows short, and the barrier-free path of travel continuous from the entrance to the counter — delivering a pharmacy that is as functional for staff as it is welcoming for patients.
