Overview
This custom two-storey infill residence in Calgary's inner-city Richmond community delivers over 4,500 square feet of developed living space, defined by soaring ceilings, custom built-in millwork, and Black Spanish Marble accents throughout. The home is organized around a dramatic double-height foyer with an open-riser wood staircase and structural glass guardrails — a sculptural centrepiece that connects all three levels and draws natural light deep into the plan. With five bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, a fully developed basement, and a triple detached garage, the home represents a rare combination of refined design and exceptional spatial generosity.
Design Challenge
Designing a custom luxury infill home on an inner-city lot in Richmond requires navigating the City of Calgary's infill regulations and setback requirements while delivering the scale, program, and material quality the client expects — without compromising the design integrity or the relationship of the home to the street and neighbours.
Design Response
The main floor offers a formal living room anchored by a marble-clad fireplace, an open-concept kitchen and family room, and a custom mudroom with built-in lockers. The gourmet kitchen features ceiling-height custom cabinetry, an oversized granite island with prep sink and eating bar, premium KitchenAid appliances, and detailed crown moulding. Upstairs, a floating bonus room overlooks the foyer, complemented by three bedrooms and a full laundry room. The primary suite includes a private balcony, walk-in closet, and a luxury ensuite with his-and-hers custom vanities, a freestanding soaker tub, and an oversized fully tiled steam shower. Premium finishes include acacia engineered hardwood, solid-core doors, and exposed aggregate walkways beneath a transitional stone-and-stucco exterior with black-trimmed divided-lite windows.
